At The Porterbrook Care Home, our staff are devoted to providing exceptional services in a safe environment that allows residents to make the most of every day. We want our residents to be able to keep doing what makes them happy, whether that’s watching a classic film on our cinema screen, socialising with friends and family in our private dining area, or enjoying meaningful activities planned around their own interests. From weekly outings with our Crosspool Cruisers and Crawlers group to a drink in our bar area followed by a pamper session, every day at The Porterbrook offers residents something to look forward to.

The most interesting activities are carefully planned by our wonderful Activities Team, who listen to resident feedback during meetings, one-to-ones, or even over breakfast club gatherings. We also have a chauffeur-driven car available to take residents on trips, making it easy for residents and their loved ones to enjoy all that Sheffield and the wider community have to offer.

A Variety of Activities

We think that no two days should be the same and strive to ensure there is something interesting and exciting for all of our residents, whether they choose to take part actively or simply enjoy being present during the fun. Popular favourites include bingo, quizzes and karaoke in our cinema room, where the words can be projected onto the big screen for everyone to sing along. Knit and Natter groups, baking club and intergenerational activities are also cherished events that bring people together for laughter and connection.

For those who prefer individual engagement, our Activities Team offers regular one-to-one sessions in residents’ rooms as well as Sunflower Time, which is five minutes of meaningful conversation and companionship dedicated to every resident. These small yet thoughtful touches ensure that even those who may not wish to join group activities still enjoy fulfilment and meaningful engagement. Feedback is always welcomed and valued, helping us shape an activities programme that truly reflects the voices of our community.

Moving to The Porterbrook does not imply a dramatic lifestyle change. In fact, our approach ensures residents can keep doing the things they love while making new memories and friendships along the way. Activities flow throughout the home, with all areas, from the bar and dining rooms to the cinema and garden, being used for events and gatherings. This provides our residents with plenty of opportunities to get involved.

There are no visiting times, meaning family and friends are always free to drop in and join residents for an activity, a meal, or simply a catch-up over coffee. Animals visit residents at The Porterbrook Care Home on a regular basis, and our Activity Coordinators frequently incorporate pet therapy since this experience has proven to have a positive impact on our residents and the animals never fail to bring a smile to our residents’ faces.

We organise excursions and day trips for our residents on a regular basis. Our activities programme allows residents to visit the local community in a variety of ways. Residents can explore Sheffield and the nearby areas to visit the botanical gardens, shops, local church and museums, just to name a few.
